Welcome to the Kittredge Magnet School PTO website!
KMS Parents and Stakeholders,
We know that the stress of the past ten months has been profoundly felt by students, parents, teachers and staff alike. While some uncertainty remains given the state of the pandemic, we do anticipate KMS students will be returning to in-person school and wanted to provide some updates relative to our recent PTO activities.
In December as part of our annual appreciation efforts, the PTO sponsored a staff breakfast from Refuge Coffee and Sublime Donuts and distributed $25 Lunch-On-Us gift cards to Tin Roof Cantina. In addition, the KMS Foundation generously provided $100 to every staff member in recognition for all the hard work making our first full semester of virtual learning a success. PTO also completed refunds for payments on field trips that could not be rescheduled.
As we turn our attention to 2021, many of our students will be back in a face-to-face environment next month and it is necessary that we begin preparing for the grand opening of the school building. You may recall that during a typical year, an annual donation of $150 per family to the Blue & Gold fund is suggested. For many reasons, the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year did not seem like an appropriate time to make that request. While district leadership has worked diligently to ensure the schools are provisioned for reopening, there remains both short and long-term needs unique to Kittredge that the PTO plans to supplement. Specifically:
- Additional cleaning and PPE supplies (above and beyond what DCSD is providing to ensure students and teachers are as safe as possible)
- Electrostatic sprayers that clean and disinfect the air in common areas and can be used now and in the future during flu season
- Technology needs such as replacement iPads for fourth graders and other equipment that will enhance in-person and virtual learner experience
- Campus beautification to include plantings, privacy fencing and student-lead public art installations
We can fund these requests because of the generosity of families that have supported KMS throughout the years. We now need our current families to contribute an annual donation to ensure future needs like these can be met. Our suggested donation per family is $150 however donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.
